Why not go to Seville? You can take the swerving mountain
road if you wish to visit the beautiful town of Ronda along
the way. Ronda stands astride the giant 100 metre deep El
Tajo gorge in the Serrania de Ronda Mountains. If you like
old towns, with cobbled streets, and open-air cafes in the
town square, then Ronda is certainly worth a visit. It is
also possible to take a longer route, via Malaga, to Seville.
Although you will cover a greater distance, it will take the
same amount of time (4 hours) due to much better quality roads.
One of the three largest cathedrals in the world is in Seville.
The Cathedral was completed in 1507, in mainly Gothic architecture.
It is certainly worth a look.
Not far away is Alcazar (above), built originally as a fort,
but now more like a palace. It is a large building with varied
architecture, and some areas have displays of artwork. The
large gardens there are quite beautiful, perfect for an afternoon
stroll. Seville supplies plenty of Spanish tradition which
you may or may not want to experience, depending on your taste.
Visit Flamenco venues or the bull-fighting, and eat some of
the best tapas in Spain in the local bars.
